Candles were once used as clocks: by knowing how long it takes for a candle to burn, it is possible to build a dial that indicates the time elapsed since the candle was lit. When the candle burns down to the end, it just has to be replaced so the clock does not stop. Candle Clock appropriates the movement of a shrinking candle, drawing horizontal lines, from top to bottom, over time, so that the upper lines contain pixels from moments before the lower. The software allows the user to specify the number of columns – or candles – the image will display, and how long it will take for all columns to be filled up, so the images may display columns representing one minute, one hour, or an entire day.
